W12 2D & 3D

Finished Product!
It all went together pretty well and any complication were fixed with little effort. Some of the materials that I found had to be adapted to work. E.G. the nuts and bolts that had to go through the plastic pages were to long so they had to be shortened. So they were hack-sawed and then filed the end to fix the thread.

Looking at the end product I have decided not put an image on the front cover. I think that it will look to out of place. The other reason is I don't want to take the risk at this stage to try it. Maybe at a later stage if I make another one I would Still like to try it. Out of my two designs the first one is the nicest. So this is the design that I would use again. If I find some spare time I may have ago at doing another one.

W11 2D & 3D

Zac:

1. Effectiveness of design process.

Has not got a clear concept. Will find it hard to complete in time if he runs into problems.

2. Effectiveness of concept communication.

A bit vague at the beginning but after asking some question the concept became a bit clearer.

3. Progress in the last week.

Very slow progress has changed his mind not aware of time has to complete

Carol:

1. Effectiveness of design process.

Well thought out designs can see that they work because she has working models. Needs some work on 2D design but will get there in the end.

2. Effectiveness of concept communication.

Concept still not clear but has produced works that are very interesting.

3. Progress in the last week.

Has completed another sculpture.

Steve:

1. Effectiveness of design process.

Has completed the groundwork e.g. Drawing up the grid still needs to complete a prototype to sort out and problems in construction.

2. Effectiveness of concept communication.

Could understand the concept and look forward to seeing the end product.

3. Progress in the last week.

Will need to pick up the work to get it completed on time. Sounds like a lot of work still to be done.

Sarah:

1.Effectiveness of design process.

Very well thought out design and layout. On her way to completing very high quality work.

2. Effectiveness of concept communication.

Needs to work on communication to back up her great work. But really liked how you showed the process of how you made the tag line.

3. Progress in the last week.

Getting there should see some results in the next week.

Amelia:

1. Effectiveness of design process.

Can see very clearly the process from start to finish. Has kept good documentation and research on the process as a whole. Can visualize the end product.

2. Effectiveness of concept communication.

Very well researched which shows clearly in the communication. Can answer any question that is thrown at her. Has thought of all the fine details and not over looked anything so the design should work fine.

3. Progress in the last week.

Has almost completed the patterns. Needs to refine it but almost complete.

REFLECTION

These are the bolts that i should have used. But i could not find any where that supplied them. In future may have to look at ordering them in. All up the design that i created worked well and i fitted together as i had hoped. Found that ply wood was the best material to use because of its ability to be sanded and smooth down, also for its weight and strength.

W10 2D & 3D

Stevie

Design process

Pretty clear process, could visualize the end project. Needs some testing, make a prototype. Go for it. Try different variations.

Concept communication

Pretty clear, end product matches up with the concept, not dark and gloomy but a happy vibe.

Amelia

Design process

Very well thought out, thorough.

Concept communication

Bringing light to the world.

Sarah

Design process

Well thought out, executed and a prototype that works. More experimentation with the swing tags, if she has time.

Concept communication

Having the prototype helps communicate the concept

Jarrod

Design process

Practical, thorough research has been done. Clear and well thought out

Concept communication

Make a mini model to help with the communication to improve the final outcome or help visualize the end product.

Zac

Design process

Done some good experimentation. Going in the right direction.

Concept communication

Concept wasn’t really clear, but with some specific points it will become more clear.

Carol

Design process

Well thought out, got all the materials, showed a step by step process from start to finish. Complex but well planed.

W09 2D & 3D

UP HERE POSTER POSSIBLE LAYOUTS.
These are my basic layouts for the poster. I class we came up with an idea to use our selves in the image. So we came up with holding the logo uphere on our diaries and then taking a photo and using this image as the main focus point on the poster to try and grab peoples attention. So the next few posters underneath are the refined one that i created in illustrator. Some of them are only vector shapes so these can be blown up to any size if we need to make any banners of sorts.

These are my poster designs. They keep with the colour theme that corporate communication had given us. They are a basic designs that gets the message across. Some of them i find interesting but Im pretty much over designing stuff for the exhibition need to start on something new something fresh.

W08 2D & 3D

For our exhibition we still had not come up with a logo. So we spent both lessons in 2d and 3d coming up with a new logo that was designed by the students that are running the exhibition. The class decided that the staff designed logo was not that flash and that we could come up with a more interesting design. We also thought that the logo was basic and had been done before. It also did not really represent the word uphere. The class spent an hour coming up with the font that was to be used for the logo. I wanted something that was a bit more exciting than normal fonts so I suggested we use BlockHouse. Its got a rawness to it that i think represents the northern territory art scene.

So this is the logo that i came up with in class was not feeling very enthusiastic about designing another logo as I had already come up with quite a few that got knocked back. I also thought that my balloon logo was very good. The reason that they did not pick it were not very convincing. The other thing was all the students who saw it loved it.

In saying all that I am really happy with the final Logo designed by Amelia. It has the creative edge that i was hoping for. It represents the name well and does not show the obvious concept of representing the NT.
The other thing that we had to keep in mind with designing was corporate coms for the uni gave us strict guide lines that all the imagery for the exhibition must abide to. These are the colour pallet that must be followed when producing and promotion.

Make a list of 3 key concepts you are trying to communicate

1. To look like a professionally made folio.

2. To have a personal touch.

3. Something to hold and show my work.

Make a list of 3 key feelings your trying to communicate

1. Create interest.

2. Excitement.

3. That I take pride in my work.

Using a scale of 1 – 10,

each group assigns a quantitative rating for all the designs,

based on both the criteria below

1. Clear rendition of 3 key concepts

Jarrod – 8, 8, 8 = 8

Carol – 7, 10, 7 = 8

Amelia – 9, 9, 9 = 9

2. Clear rendition of 3 key feelings

Jarrod – 9, 9, 8 = 8.6

Carol – 8, 8, 8 = 8

Amelia – 9, 9, 8 = 8.6

3. Immediate visual appeal

Jarrod – 9, 8, 7 = 8

Carol – 7, 7, 7 = 7

W07 2D

This was the first logo that I designed. It was my initial idea when I herd the words uphere. I don't like the logo I came up with mainly because I did not like the name for the exhibition. I also did not like the fact that it comes across to territorian and does not look professional enough. I want some thing that is going to create more interest.
So after some thinking i came up with this idea. It has more emotion in it and also creates and captures the feel of the name. I like this logo much better its fun but also looks professional. I creates excitement and hopefully this will create more interest in the exhibition.

I got some feed back on the logo design. Things that I needed to change is the text it looks to party like childish in a way, Maybe take the highlights of the text. The image of the person is to much like a dancer, need a character that represents the faculties better, some thing that looks more like he is getting dragged away by the balloons starting on a new journey after uni.
3 key concepts
  1. Light feel to best represent the name.
  2. Creative.
  3. Clean and minimal.
  4. Create a story within the image.
3 key feelings
  1. Fun.
  2. Exciting.
  3. Interesting.
